Basic of Teeth Whitening

We’ve all heard the saying “pearly white teeth” or “shiny white smile” or just simply “bright smile” before. No matter how many times those sayings are twitched, they all convey the same message: that there is a social preference for white teeth and everybody wants it. Sparkling white teeth can bring a number of advantages, most of them in terms of physical appearance. Though many myths regarding white teeth have been debunked as of the late, there is no denying people are willing to spend out cash to have a celebrity-like smile. There is nothing wrong with it, there are however a few points that one must bear in mind before scheduling a session with the dentist.

  1. It’s not naturally white

Bear in mind that human teeth are not naturally white, they have shades of either yellow or grey or both. The perfect smile that we see in promotional materials usually has undergone many treatments.

  1. Appearance and confidence

We can be more enticing to peers and professional acquaintance if we smile during convenient moments, and our smile can be more enticing if we have angelic white teeth. The most common reason why many people would like to have a set of white and bright teeth.

  1. Not automatically healthy

Just like someone who has washboard abs is not automatically healthy, or someone who does not have wrinkles is not necessarily young. Remember whitening is only good on the surface, it does not act upon the deeper areas. Also, whitened or bleached teeth does not really mean they’re always clean, so do stick to your dental hygiene routine.

  1. Whitening vs Bleaching

Remember the part about teeth being not naturally white? Bleaching pertains to the treatment wherein teeth is whitened beyond natural colour. Whereas whitening is the restoration of the teeth’s glow by removing dirt and debris. Thus, whitening tooth paste and home based natural products can whiten teeth but users must manage expectations, they cannot achieve the same results that bleaching can.

  1. Discoloration

You spent countless dollars trying to get your teeth white as snow, only to have them revert to their old yellowish form. Once you’ve undergone either whitening or bleaching, follow dentist’s advice on how to maintain, and be on top of your dental hygiene appointments to make your white teeth last as long as possible.

  1. Different reactions

Who isn’t familiar with cases of sensitive teeth? While sensitive teeth can have different reactions to different foods (specifically hot or cold ones), they can also have different reactions to sensitive teeth. Again, another case of following dentist’s advice.

Just as it was mentioned earlier, desiring whiter teeth isn’t bad, and acting upon that desire isn’t bad either. Let’s face it, we live in a self-presentation conscious society and investing in looks can have its advantages. But before you do get into the teeth whitening procedure, be sure to know the components, so as to avoid being surprised when the by-products come knocking at your door.
